| The Situation
When JEOL, a major Japanese manufacturer of physiochemical equipment (electron microscopes, medical equipment, semiconductor manufacturing devices, etc.) was told by a major customer that SEMI E187 compliance was a procurement requirement, compliance became their top priority. But this was an uphill battle, considering they had almost no knowledge of cybersecurity and didn’t know how to accurately interpret the SEMI E187 standard. They turned to experts in the field, TXOne Networks for consultation on the matter. In February 2024, it was TXOne that introduced them to a third-party certification with a proven track record of issuing SEMI EI187 compliance certificates. Now, all they had to do was adjust their operations to comply with the standard.
| The Solution
Out of the 12 technical criteria, one of the trickiest was meeting the vulnerability scanning requirement. JEOL found the solution with TXOne’s Element series, using the Portable Inspector tool to generate vulnerability and malware inspection reports from the ElementOne management console.
“When it came to obtaining the vulnerability information required by SEMI E187, there were simply no viable alternatives to TXOne,” said Mr. Koizumi from the design department.

By These reports were reviewed and accepted by the third-party certification body, ultimately leading to JEOL becoming the first company in Japan to receive SEMI E187 certification.
