Technology as a Strategic Ally in Protecting Production Environments

Feb 26, 2026

| The Situation

Energy production environments such as power generation plants operate highly interconnected industrial control systems that must remain continuously available. As digital transformation and remote maintenance increased connectivity across IT and OT domains, Ansaldo Energia faced growing exposure to cyber threats targeting legacy assets, engineering workstations, and critical production networks. The organization required an OT cybersecurity strategy capable of protecting complex industrial environments without introducing operational risk or disrupting uptime.

| The Switch

As cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure and industrial operations intensified, Ansaldo Energia recognized that traditional perimeter defenses and network isolation were no longer sufficient to protect modern production environments. The company adopted a security philosophy centered on risk-based prioritization, operational continuity, and lifecycle protection of OT assets. This shift positioned cybersecurity not as an IT overlay, but as an integrated component of safe and resilient industrial operations.

“Within this context, TXOne Networks emerged as the ideal technology partner, capable of responding precisely to Ansaldo Energia’s requirements.” said Diego Lusso, Cyber Security OT Manager at Ansaldo Energia.

| The Transition

To operationalize this strategy, Ansaldo Energia conducted a comprehensive OT cybersecurity assessment aligned with the IEC 62443 framework to identify vulnerabilities across legacy systems, segmented networks, and production-critical assets. TXOne Networks was selected for its purpose-built OT security technologies designed to operate within constrained industrial environments. The initial deployment of allowlisting-based endpoint protection established a trusted execution foundation for production systems while minimizing false positives and operational disruption.

| Implementation & Expansion

Following initial success, Ansaldo Energia expanded TXOne deployment across multiple layers of OT security, including removable media governance with Safe Port, on-site scanning and assessment with Portable Inspector, and network-based threat prevention with EdgeIPS. These technologies enabled secure maintenance workflows, protected air-gapped and legacy systems, and improved visibility into industrial communications. The layered architecture allowed security controls to be introduced progressively across plants and production zones, strengthening cyber defense coverage without interrupting production.

| Business Benefits

With Portable Inspector, Safe Port, and EdgeIPS integrated into a layered OT security approach, Ansaldo Energia improved operational confidence while reducing security friction for plant teams. Centralized visibility and policy control helped streamline incident response and standardize secure maintenance practices across production environments—supporting long-term resilience for critical energy infrastructure.

| The Result

With TXOne’s OT-native security architecture in place, Ansaldo Energia achieved improved detection accuracy, reduced operational alerts, and greater visibility across industrial assets and network activity. Security teams gained actionable intelligence to assess risk and respond to threats without interrupting production processes. The organization strengthened its cyber resilience posture across energy generation facilities while maintaining the reliability and efficiency required for critical infrastructure operations.
